Freddy Wong on Bike Hero

Freddy Wong was one of the earliest YouTube Guitar Hero stars, most notably with his YYZ video.

Deservedly so, not just because of his impressive 2006-era Guitar Hero II skills, but because it’s hilarious!

The other classic early Guitar Hero video was the.. dual guitar Pizza. Hard to explain, but note use of footpedal to bridge the strums. This kind of play would only be possible in old-school Guitar Hero 1 face off vs. mode, where the notes alternate per-player most of the time.

After the release of Guitar Hero: World Tour, this Bike Hero video suddenly appeared — somemone riding a bike through an elaborate physical GH:WT song “level”.

Although the video is amazing, it was immediately suspected of being a viral, because the production values and time required to pull this off seems extraordinary. After some detective work, turns out, it was a viral video. Part of a campaign to advertise Guitar Hero: World Tour.

Our old pal Freddy Wong was there to confirm it — what’s up, viral marketing douchebags! — and show them how a real guitar hero performs Bike Hero.

Freddy was also at the recent YouTube Live! Event, where he introduced Joe Satriani (and the popular YouTube “Canon Rock” guitarist funtwo) via Satch Boogie in GH:WT.

Keep on rockin’, Freddy.

Awesome stuff. Freddy definitely rocks. BTW, Jeff, just wanted to say, I love this blog. You cover music games from an angle that is definitely unique and interesting. I don’t comment much but I check it every day :)

WOW. Freddy…so many words. The original YYZ video…fantastic. I’d like to think that if you asked him about why he deploys Star Power when he does, he would say “what?” Like he has no idea what that means, it just comes naturally. Thankfully he has the chains to restrain him.

And the Bike Hero video is incredible. I didn’t believe it, I still don’t believe it.

I’ve never seen so much Guitar Hero trash talking directed at the ENTIRE WORLD.
