Vocal Duets in Rock Band and Guitar Hero World Tour

Ever wanted to sing a song with a buddy, either as a duet or call-and-response style? That’s tough to do with the mere single mic that Rock Band and Guitar Hero World Tour provide. But with the inexpensive ($25 at Best Buy) Blockhead duet set, it’s easy.

The Blockhead Duet microphones can also be used with SingStar, but it’s not much of a novelty there, as SingStar already comes with 2 mics and a fully supported duet mode out of the box. There’s a small switch on the back to choose which game you’re using.

These aren’t particularly high quality mics, but they’re cheap, and they work — even using both at the same time, obviously! So when you want to harmonize some vocals or just trade off vocal duties verse by verse, bust out your duet set.

This is, incidentally, the same “multiple microphones feeding into the same analog to digital converter” concept that drives the e-Tambourine and e-Cowbell mod, as featured in the Ultimate Vocalist Battlestation. These blockhead mics would be an excellent starting point for that mod, too (hint, hint)!

Awesome find! I just picked this up and gave it a shot tonight. Definitely a lot of fun and totally worth the $25. The only downside is I need to drop another $25 for another mic stand =)

Hmm, interesting but I’m not really sure how useful this is. I mean, whenever extra vocals are called for in the songs on Rock Band – the chorus of Living On A Prayer, the extra “waaaanteds!” in Wanted and such, the rest of the band usually just gets into it and sings that stuff anyway.

This doesn’t work with GHWT on PS3. I tried it this evening and ended up having to take it back :(

Bummer, sorry to hear that wil — but thanks for the report. That’s odd, because both games work well with generic USB microphones for the most part. Did you try it with Rock Band as well?

Does this really not work on Guitar Hero: World Tour on PS3? I read on the Rock Band Forums that one user did get it to work.

I just got this and will try it with GHWT tonight. I also got a Logitech USB mic used form game stop for $9.99 US and 10% off with Edge card. I do know that the Logitech USB headset works with GHWT if you can stand having a dead speaker in your ear LOL! If you can set up the mic in the PS3 XMB then the mic should work with GHWT, you have to use a regular PS3 controller for the person using the mic. That being said I should try the PS3 EYE because it has a mic and can be set up in the PS3 XMB as a microphone.
