Guitar Hero: Smash Hits Song List
The full tracklist for Guitar Hero Smash Hits was finally unveiled. The game is scheduled to be released on June 16th on all platforms.
Smash Hits is a collection of transplanted tracks from previous entries in the Guitar Hero series, but this time with the full band treatment, using the updated engine from Guitar Hero: Metallica. There are no new features that I know of, just the same great songs that you can now play as a full band in the latest and greatest Guitar Hero full band game engine.. and this time around, all of the songs are original masters — none of those funky “as made famous by” covers!
I thought it was interesting exactly which tracks from which game made the cut, so I’ve included the full tracklists from each Guitar Hero game, and the songs that were included in Guitar Hero Smash Hits are highlighted in context of the full track listing. If you don’t remember a particular song, just click through to see a YouTube video of it.

From Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (2007)
From Guitar Hero: Aerosmith (2008)
(I didn’t include the full tracklist for GH:A here, since only one song was selected from the game.) I think most of all I missed the Guitar Hero I tracks, and for that alone this is a day one purchase to get to finally replay those classics in a full band with the latest engine. Bark at the Moon and Cowboys from Hell were probably my two most desired tracks for this game, and they nailed it. But I must admit I’m a little perplexed about what did and didn’t make the cut almost everywhere else. And then, of course, it’s disappointing that Activision seems dead set on trapping songs within individual game releases, instead of building a vibrant, iTunes like download library like the 600+ track strong music store in Rock Band and Rock Band 2. But I suppose there’s nothing we can do about that. It’s not ideal, but at least I get to replay these songs again! While these are (mostly) solid track choices, the songs that got away are even more appealing to me now. Here’s hoping all these great songs — not just the 48 that were chosen for Guitar Hero Smash Hits — make it to either Rock Band or another Guitar Hero game in some form eventually!
I agree, the choices from 2 and 3 suck. They left out so many great ones in favor of mediocre ones :/ Caleb Oh man, I read that list and got all exited. Then I realized that only the green ones were included. I thought they were ALL gonna be on there, and that maybe those were the only ones you could find links for. That’s what I get for not paying attention, I guess. :/ Mayyday So most of the songs I like (as opposed to tolerate to get thru the tour) are already avaliable in Rock Band as DLC, and my ION Drum Rocker will get dumbed-down charts in GH (at least they did in GH:WT; dunno about GH:Metallica) so what’s the upside… and I have to swap discs?!? Dunno man… Wow, a new game to buy just to play a couple golden oldies = the reason I pay little attention to the GH series. It’s nice to see the re-release of these songs, but having to buy and play a whole new disc is silly. These songs should be DLC or an exportable track pack, compatible with GHWT (or is GH:M the new standard?). Then there’s the case of not every song being golden. I’d much rather stick with the music platform of RB, where you can pick and choose which songs you’re willing to spend money on. I wish Activision would embrace that notion for the GH series. As it is, I don’t feel the need to buy 5 different games just to play the variety of songs I like. Alex Guitar Hero series is available for ps2 also and ps2 does not have a hard disk to save downloads in it -> there is a serious need to include the songs on the disks. Gh did start on ps2 platform only… Paula Leave a comment |
