The game is scheduled for release September 1st on Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii, and Playstation 2.

Note that the game does include a slightly revamped and enhanced guitar, with changes detailed by IGN:

guitar-hero-5-guitar

  • new faceplate
  • chrome pegs (no more silver metallic sharpie mod needed!)
  • more durable strum switches
  • textured strumbar
  • completely revamped digital slider touchpad

The basic design of the guitar has obviously not changed, so it’s a few tweaks and improvements to the internals. The major slider touchpad changes are definitely good news, as the old analog sliders were so touchy and finicky I’m not sure anyone ended up using them.

There are also improved drums, although I don’t know how anyone can get them quite yet — as there are no band kits available for pre-order, just the guitar and game combo:

I’m surprised they just went with the number, instead of a subtitle.

Also, am I the only person that doesn’t like live versions of songs on music games. I understand that the master recordings for some older songs may not be available anymore. But the whole point of moving away from covers to the actual bands, was to play the songs we all know so well. A live version just isn’t as satisfying to me. And the drummers tend to be more spastic playing live.

Just the other day I was saying Plug In Baby would be just about as perfect a Guitar Hero song as you could get, so nice to see that. Also something I didn’t think I would ever see in a Guitar Hero game is Elliott Smith, good choice of his songs for the game too.

New drums look nice, hopefully they are better quality than the last set, and are available separately, as I really don’t need any more guitars.

> am I the only person that doesn’t like live versions of songs on music games

It’s hit or miss with the live songs. Some work quite well (AC/DC) and others feel really “off” (Sweet Home Alabama in GH:WT, Jimmy Buffett in RB DLC)
