First Lego Rock Band Footage

Via the MTV Multiplayer blog, the first concrete gameplay footage of the upcoming Lego Rock Band.

While only a fraction of the game’s tracklist has been revealed (13 tracks to date), the “destructive” nature of the Lego gameplay was often discussed, and is finally revealed in full in this video. The Hives song “Tick Tick Boom” is used to blow up a Lego building!

It’s unusual for the background animations played during a song to reflect anything other than the band semi-generically rocking out to the note chart. That’s been true in every version of Guitar Hero and Rock Band to date. The Beatles: Rock Band is a notable exception with its song-specific “dreamscapes” — and it looks like Lego Rock Band also continues this trend.

Some other notable changes in Lego Rock Band:

  • LEGO Themed Rock Challenges – play killer riffs to destroy a giant robot, summon a storm and demolish a skyscraper using the power of rock! (ed: this must be what the above video shows)
  • Don’t stop with your avatar, customize your whole entourage! Design the band, roadies, and manager just the way you want!
  • Build fame LEGO style – Collect LEGO bricks after each song to build cooler vehicles and move to new venues.
  • LEGO Rock Den – buy furniture, decorate the walls and customize your band’s hang-out as you climb the ladder to rock success.
  • Beginner option – An easier skill set option for budding musicians.

Personally, I can’t wait. While I sincerely hope that a lot of the Lego Rock Band songs are eventually available as Rock Band 2 downloadable content, the game looks like a ton of destructive, lego themed fun in its own right.

Looks like this game will have something rock band and guitar hero never had, a story line…
