The Share Your Love Contest

I am in fact a huge fan of The Beatles: Rock Band. I’ve been enjoying the heck out of the recent Abbey Road DLC, so much so that I’d call the 16-minute B-side medley — playable as one continuous song — the high point of my entire fake plastic rock experience to date. It was seriously that good!

So I jumped at the opportunity to run a (very!) small, sponsored contest courtesy of our pals at GameStop.

Up for grabs are two copies of The Beatles: Rock Band for Playstation 3.

beatles-rock-band-ps3

Here’s how it works:

  1. Leave a comment describing your favorite Beatles song in the game. Just a short paragraph is fine.
  2. Be sure to leave a valid email address in the comment so I can contact you.
  3. I will select my two favorite comments (you have to convince me — at least a little!) and your copy of The Beatles: Rock Band for the Playstation 3 will be shipped directly to you.

That’s it!

And, if you don’t win in the comments, there’s always the Share Your Love contest which runs until the 16th:

Create lyrics for your own love song using at least ten titles from songs by The Beatles. You could win a VIP trip to Las Vegas, complete with airfare, stay at The Mirage, tickets to The Beatles LOVE by Cirque du Soleil along with the chance to perform your winning submission before the show.

Also, if you already own The Beatles: Rock Band, get out there and buy that Abbey Road DLC! Harmonix is taking a “wait and see” approach to future Beatles DLC — meaning, the more Abbey Road sells, the more likely it will be that we’ll get more Beatles tracks.

Do not disappoint me! You guys know what to do, here! :)

Sorry, U.S.A only AFAIK. :(

Obviously I don’t have the game, but I really liked playing “Here comes the sun” at friends. It was not a particular song, but the whole design of the game that’s so different from the other rock band games. Refreshing.

USA ONLY!!!! Sjeez guys, come on… When will American companies become true world citizens? And don’t give me legal shit, because there are contests which are actually worldwide out there.

Take a chance. Make friends overseas.

I didn’t have to think too long here; my favorite track is probably “Back in the USSR,” off The White Album. It’s not that I particularly love that song (though it is awfully catchy), it’s that my daughter does. Sort of.

Since having a daughter nearly a year and a half ago, my video game playing time has gone down quite a bit. So has my time in general spent listening to music. But earlier this year she began to demonstrate at least vague interest in both. After realizing how much she enjoyed the beat of her mother’s lively dance music, I sat her down on my lap and began searching for songs _I_ liked which would catch her attention.

The first real Rock song that made her giggle and bop was Back in the USSR. I don’t know if I can keep distracting her from the seductive beats of modern pop music, but I will certainly have a good time trying with Beatles Rock Band.

Here comes the sun– We played it at our wedding (cake cutting ceremony) and I sing it my daughter and she loves the way I sing the “Sun sun sun here it comes” parts to her.

I really love “Twist and Shout”. The Beatles recorded “Please Please Me” in one day, and “Twist and Shout” was the last one of the day. John Lennon had been singing all day and his voice was really taxed. His raspy vocals really give the track that extra rock n’ roll umph.

There’s nothing like Yellow Submarine, and underwater at that! What makes that fun for me is two fold. It’s a song that I remember doing a ‘pirate’ type skit for when I was in elementary school, and it’s transitioned now, as my 6 year old son has the entire song memorized, and harasses me every time we’re in the car to play it on my CD for him. I’ve got this image in my head now of him trying to sing and play along with it for the PS3 (he apparently, has decided that he loves trying to play the drums).

I love the song “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)”. It is an all-around great song and the ending is incredible. I read an article about the song once that said how it was the first song that had such a progressive build up with such an abrupt ending. It seems to be a bit darker and a bit of an odd fit for Abbey Road but it is by far my favorite.

I’ve been watching some of the game videos on youtube. I haven’t seen them all, but I really like “A Hard Day’s Night” it’s got that classic Beatles style to it. I generally enjoy the earlier Beatles songs more than their later works.

I really like “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.”
It’s hard to explain, but that song is just in a different category than most.

My wife really likes “I am the Walrus”. We had a blast playing that one over and over again.

“Yellow Submarine” is also an incredibly fun song.

“I Saw Her Standing There” is my absolute favorite. I remember hearing this song when I was 5 years old and just discovering music. My mom was a teenager when the Beatles came to the States and naturally a Beatles fanatic. This song so much reminds me of being a kid and how much fun music can be. Thanks mom for introducing me to real music.

“Can’t Buy Me Love”. Went to and also enjoyed the movie of the same name in 1987 with my first girlfriend. Guess what, you can’t me buy love….

It’s been a hard day’s night, and I’ve been working like a dog
It’s been a hard day’s night, I should be sleeping like a log
But when I get home to you I find the things that you do
Will make me feel alright
(A little bit of plastic rock always makes me feel all right after a hard days night)

These are all great songs. But for me the song that fits the spirit of Rock Band the best is “The End”. What with the drum solo from Ringo, and the three-way jamfest between John, George and Paul, everybody gets a chance to shine. Yeah, it’s short, but it’s one song I’m looking forward to playing with my friends.

I just hope the game has Across the Universe, arguably the most esoteric Beatles’ song, with chorus being direct reference to “everything-is-your-mind” theory, and verses containing meditation instructions.

How could it not be “Here Comes the Sun”?

I guess you’d have to live through Oregon winters: six months of grey, rain, and grey rain. Liquid sunshine.

When the sun finally *does* come out and I can walk around outside without fear for my health, I literally feel like I’m high. It is extremely euphoric. “Here Comes the Sun” perfectly captures the feeling of spring in Portland.

I have to say that my favorite song in the game is “A Hard Day’s Night.” I’ve been a huge Beatles fan my whole life (20 years old), and I can remember a few times when I was home sick from school, and I watched the movie. Additionally, Hard Day’s Night was a part of the first halftime show I was a part of in high school marching band. Plus, that first chord is just fun.

Revolution stands out to me as it was the first Beatles song that used in a commercial for Nike back in the late 80’s. I remember recording the ad and watching it over and over on the trusty VCR. I hadn’t had much if any exposure to the Beatles before, however something about the song and imagery captured my imagination as a wide eyed 12 year old. Hopefully this game is helping to inspire another 12 year old somewhere to explore the Beatles and their catalog.

I Love the on the Rooftop of Apple Corp. part of the Story Mode and all the songs but in paticular I fell in Love with: I Want You(So Heavy) Even though its not a very lyrical song the bass and guitar riffs are excellent and I called it the song with NO Ending! Because it litteraly seems it could go on forever and then comes to a halt as if someone pulled the plug during the session :-)Overall The Game Rocks! Honestly I only knew a handful of the Beatles songs before playing the game. But the game motivated me to add alot of there work to my music collection. P.S I Love your site

Are we talking about your favorite Beatles song that also happens to be in the game or… Are we talking about your favorite track to play in the game. Since I don’t actually own the game (the primary reason I want to win a copy) I’ll go with my favorite track that happens to be in the game. I’m going to have to go with “Here Comes the Sun”. Let’s hope they keep up with the DLC content so I can get some of my all time favorite Beatles tracks. In My Life, Got to Get You into my Life, and Penny Lane (because it reminds me of the movie Almost Famous).

It seems I’m a little late to the party, as I haven’t been checking by as regularly, due to the slower updates here. Though I don’t see a deadline.

In anycase, I’ve always responded really well to “I’ve got a feeling.” The song, though typical to the Lennon/McCartney style seems to capture both of them in their separate and unique aspects from each-other. As this is the last song they ‘wrote’ as a duo, that is a great thing.

On the one hand, you have Paul singing, almost as if he is in love, and quite near what you would expect from a Beatles song. Then, all of a sudden, John comes up, and begins with “everybody had a hard year.” It brings you back down to earth, and every time I hear it, sends chills down my spine.

Considering the way things were for John at that point in his life, and for that matter, the band. This song almost defines the latter days of The Beatles for me.

Yep, that’s my bit.
